Sweden and Bahrain share little — except, it turns out, an eye for upmarket ski helmets and cycling safety gear.
Investcorp, the Bahraini investment group, has paid $65 million (£42 million) for POC, which makes £300 ski helmets and £200 sunglasses. It was previously owned by Black Diamond, a maker of outdoor equipment.
Investcorp has a portfolio of about 150 investments including Tyrells crisps.
Last year Investcorp bought Dainese, a maker of motorcycle leathers that was founded in 1972 and includes Valentino Rossi, the Italian racer, among its customers. It made a previous foray into Scandinavian consumer goods three years ago with the purchase of Georg Jensen, the Danish luxury retailer.
POC was founded in 2005 and has its headquarters in Stockholm. Its products, which also include goggles and body armour, are sold in 27 countries.
